A car battery is hazardous waste. Lead acid does not belong in the household bin or at the back of a shed where it leaks for years. So we always take away the battery we replace, free of charge, and hand it to a licensed processor.
Have older batteries lying around that did not come from us? We will take those too while we are there — whether it is a single battery in the garage or a stack on a business site. For companies we can call round periodically to collect.
Lead from car batteries is among the most successfully recycled materials there is: the lead, the plastic and the acid are recovered almost completely and re-enter the chain. Doing it properly costs you nothing.
