Stop-start battery (AGM and EFB) in Zaanstad
The Zaan region has a lot of commercial vehicles parked on private sites. We test entire fleets and schedule the batteries due to fail in a few months, so they do not surprise you on a Monday morning.
Has your stop-start system quit working? That is usually the first sign the battery is worn. The on-board computer disables stop-start as soon as the battery no longer holds enough reserve — before you notice the car cranking more slowly.
A stop-start car needs an AGM or EFB battery, not an ordinary flooded one. Those types are built for the hundreds of extra start cycles per journey and for charging under braking. Fitting a standard battery looks cheaper but is finished within eighteen months, and the car will keep stop-start switched off. So we always check which type it originally takes.
Registration matters just as much. Cars with battery management need to be told a new battery is fitted, otherwise the charging system keeps calculating with an old, worn battery and the new one is under- or overcharged. We register the new battery in the on-board computer with the correct type and capacity.
